John Edmund Mulaney- an American actor, writer, and producer. He is famously known for his work as a stand-up comedian. In the field of media and art, his chief genres are conventional comedy, sketch comedy, and surreal humor.

Mulaney’s Life – Then and Now
John Mulaney was born on August 26, 1982, in Chicago, Illinois, US. He is the third child of his parents- Ellen and Charles Mulaney Jr. His mother was a professor at the Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law, and his father was an attorney and a partner at Skadden Arps. He has two brothers and two sisters. While one of his brothers died.
During his early age, Mulaney was an altar boy. But from his early childhood, he was determined to go into the show business. When he was 7, he was offered the role of Kevin in Home Alone, but it got turned down by his parents.
He completed his junior year from St. Clement School, and in the year 2000 he graduated from St. Ignatius College Prep. He further studied English literature and Religion from Georgetown University. There at the school’s improv group, he met Nick Kroll and Mike Birbiglia. Later he went with Birbiglia on his stage tour, and this tour gave him the stage boost he needed.
The start – From the age of five, Rick Ricardo’s character from the program I Love Lucy, inspired him to become an artist. After graduating from Georgetown University, he moved to New York to start his career in comedy. Here he got the job as an office assistant at Comedy Central. Following year, he made a parody of “I Love the 80’s” as “I Love the 30’s”, along with his friend Nick Kroll.
Saturday Night Live – After some time he was offered a job as a writer in an American late-night sketch comedy show- Saturday Night Live. He also appeared on the show’s Weekend Update segments.
This show is among the most famous works of Mulaney. And he also got nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Variety Series. He hosted SNL three times in 2018, 2019, and 2020 respectively. And became the fourth SNL writer to host SNL without being a cast member.
Other famous comedies – In addition to working at SNL, Mulaney worked 17 years as a stand-up comedian in various shows including Live at Gotham, Conan, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, Comedy Central Presents, etc etc. His two stand-up comedy albums The Top Part and New in Town received great fame.
They were produced by Comedy Central and were released in 2009 and 2012 respectively. His third stand-up comedy, The Comeback Kid was released in 2015 on Netflix. His fourth comedy special, Kid Gorgeous was released in 2017.
